Boost your chances of IUI success
The NHS often recommends that women try several IUI (intrauterine insemination) cycles before they try IVF. While the success rate of IUI is lower than IVF, it is much quicker and usually involves fewer drugs.
If you have decided to embark on IUI, preparing your body and mind is just as important as preparing properly for natural conception. IUI acupuncture and/or herbal medicine in preparation for a cycle are can both significantly improve your chances of success, while nutrition is an important adjunct treatment.
Significantly improve the chances of IUI success
New research published in January 2012 again demonstrated that traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is highly effective in boosting fertility. Women who only received intrauterine insemination (IUI) conceived in 39.4% of cases. But those receiving IUI together with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine conceived in 65.5% of cases. The research was conducted by Dr. Shahar Lev-Ari and Keren Sela of Tel Aviv’s Faculty of Medicine. Find out more about the research here.
Not only did the women who received IUI plus acupuncture and herbal medicine have a significantly higher conception rate – but they also had a higher birth rate of healthy babies.
Treatment with Chinese medicine, such as acupuncture and herbal medicine, improves uterine blood flow, regulates menstrual cycles, reduces stress, and improves egg quality.

When should I start?
The best time to start treatment is at least three months before your IUI cycle begins. Come and see for an initial consultation so that one of fertility specialists can advise you on how to get the most out of your cycle including maximizing the chances of implantation, getting your body ready with acupuncture and nutrition, and managing your stress.
But if you are already closer to the start of IUI then acupuncture will stil bring you many of the benefits of beginning earlier.
