Fertility treatment with herbal medicine is twice as effective as IVF
Important scientific research, published in October 2011, that showed that women taking Chinese herbal medicine were twice as likely to get pregnant as those on IVF programmes, and three-and-a-half times more likely than women taking western medical drug treatments.
Fertility problems are often very complicated – Chinese herbal medicine, which is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), gets to the root of your problem through a detailed diagnostic process leading to a personalised prescription that will gently alter your body chemistry to achieve balance, and enhance your natural fertility. Herbal medicine is a highly specialised and very effective method for enhancing fertility health. Herbal formulas can be specifically designed for the many causes of infertility.
Can’t I just buy these herbs in Holland & Barrett?
There are many different reasons that account for the difficulty that couples have in getting pregnant, and each of these requires different treatment. Add to that the basic differences between each of us that we’re born with, and you’ll understand why every herbal prescription is unique to the individual needing it. That’s why it’s important to talk to an expert who can diagnose your problem and put together a treatment plan to address it.
Please remember also:
- Most of the herbs we use are available only on prescription from a qualified practitioner
- It takes 5 years of full time study to qualify as a Chinese herbal practitioner
- Each prescription will usually consist of a combination of 6 or more herbs. The specific way in which the herbs are combined is extremely important and results are seldom achieved with one herbs used on its own.
What is Chinese herbal medicine?
Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) is a very modern form of medicine despite its ancient origins. Because it forms a major part of healthcare provision in China, and is provided in state hospitals alongside western medicine, considerable scientific research has continued to hone its use and clinical effectiveness.
While you will find a lot of advice on the Internet, particularly on fertility forums, about which herb is good for what, it’s important to realise that most of the herbs we use are only available on prescription, and are much stronger than over-the-counter herbs.
We always prescribe herbs as a custom-made for you formula of at least 5 to 8 herbs. This allows the different components of a formula to balance each other, and they undergo a mutual synergy that increases efficacy and enhances safety. Herbal medicine seeks primarily to correct internal imbalances rather than to treat symptoms alone.
All consultations take place in our central London office at 144 Harley Street.
