8 out of 10 women with a breech presentation have a c-section
The best position for a baby to be in just before labour is head down. Around 8 out of 10 pregnant women who find their baby in the breech will eventually have a caesarian-section to deliver the baby. This is a shame since most would have preferred to have a natural birth.
75% of breech presentations will turn using moxa-therapy
Moxa-therapy is a safe natural treatment that we can teach you as a self-help solution. At least four scientific studies have been published showing how the ancient Chinese medicine treatment of moxa-therapy can be used to turn breech presentation babies.
- A 1998 study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association gave 130 women moxa-therapy, and the other 130 no treatment. After two weeks of moxa-therapy, 98 children (74.8%) had turned to the right position compared to 62 children (47.7%) in the group without moxa-therapy.
- A 2003 study published in Fetal Diagnosis & Therapy, treated women during and after the 34th week of pregnancy. 76% of the women treated with moxa found that their babies corrected their positions before delivery. Only 45% of women who were not treated spontaneously corrected.
- A 2001 study published in the American Journal of Chinese Medicine found that starting treatment earlier gave a higher rate of success. 92.5% of the babies turned to the correct position after they were treated with moxa-therapy.
No harmful effects were found in any of the studies.

What is moxa-therapy?
Moxa-therapy is one tool in the extensive toolbox of Chinese medicine, often used alongside acupuncture & acupressure. It involves warming a specific acupuncture point with a burning herb (called moxa) that has been compressed into a stick that looks a bit like a burning cigar. When lit, the moxa spreads a pleasant warmth across the acupuncture point. Sounds odd, we know, but the results speak for themselves.
