Stress is a much-overused word

People are using the word more and more, and sometimes just to mean they are busy, but it is true that people are under more stress now than ever before.

Stress simply means any change that requires you to respond, whether physically, emotionally or mentally. You are doing this all the time even if you don’t know it, but when the amount of response that is being asked of you exceeds your ability to adapt, this is what we generally mean when we use the word ‘stress’, as in ‘stressed-out’.
