A very modern natural medicine

Chinese Herbal Medicine (CHM) is a very modern form of medicine despite its ancient origins. Because it forms a major part of healthcare provision in China and throughout all of South East Asia, and is provided in state hospitals alongside Western medicine, considerable scientific research has continued to hone its use and clinical effectiveness. For example, a recent scientific paper found CHM to be twice as effective as IVF in achieving pregnancy for women diagnosed as infertile.

Prescription-only herbs

While you will find a lot of advice on the Internet telling you which herb is good for what, it’s important to realise that most of the herbs we use are only available on prescription, and are much stronger and better quality assured than over-the-counter herbs.

We always prescribe herbs as a custom-made for you formula of at least 5 to 8 herbs. This allows the different components of a formula to balance each other, and they undergo a mutual synergy that increases efficacy and enhances safety. Herbal medicine seeks primarily to correct internal imbalances rather than to treat symptoms alone.

What can herbal medicine treat?

Due to its popularity and history of use, significant scientific research has been conducted into the effectiveness of Chinese Herbal Medicine. There is a growing body of research that indicates that traditional uses of plant remedies and the known pharmacological activity of plant constituents often coincide. However, herbal medicine is distinct from medicine based on pharmaceutical drugs. Firstly, because of the complexity of plant materials it is more balanced than medicine based on isolated active ingredients and is less likely to cause side effects. Secondly, because herbs are typically prescribed in combination, the different components of a formulae balance each other, and they undergo a mutual synergy that increases efficacy and enhances safety. Thirdly, herbal medicine seeks primarily to correct internal imbalances rather than to treat symptoms alone, and therapeutic intervention is designed to encourage your self-healing process.

“I have had a brilliant Christmas and (usually for me) SAD season, whatever you did, I felt upbeat, fought off flu’s, and have had the best Christmas ever, with positive vibes and all good things, and I think I have to thank you, for what you did. Will see you late January for a booster!”

Vena Ramphal, London

I really liked how we started with the work on nutrition and my relationship with food.  This physical work acted as a safety net for the energetic emotional shifts that the breath and body work brought on. They were quite full on!

Isabel, Muswell Hill

“Ross is  a highly skilled, warm and empathetic practitioner of acupuncture and his treatment has helped me with a range of issues including stress and musculoskeletal problems”

Alex Brown, London

“The best way I can describe what Stefan does is to say that there are times when I have gone to see him feeling like I'm "broken" due to stress, over work, the death of my brother and other life experiences that have been hard to deal with. And in a simple sentence I leave feeling "fixed". Top qualities: Great Results, Expert, Creative“
